“Bitterness-A Deadly Emotion”-Sandy Robertson
Today’s message title comes from the book “Deadly Emotions” by Don Colbert, MD. Pastor Sandy takes the scriptures and deals with the deadly emotion of bitterness.
“Bitterness only hurts oneself. If you hate someone, you will give them your heart and mind. Don’t give those two things away.” – Nelson Mandella

“Why Did Jesus Come into the World?” – Sandy Robertson
Have you ever had the thought, “I wish I had never been born”? We didn’t have a choice, but Jesus chose to be born. Why did Jesus come… is the topic of today’s message and we look into the scriptures for our answer.

- Hebrews 10:5-7 gives us the first answer, possibly not spoken by Jesus but an attitude of spirit – “I have come to do your will”.
- To save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15, Luke 9:10, Psalm 40:2).
- To destroy the works of the devil. (Luke 4:34-36)
- To reconcile sinners to God (2Corth. 5:19, Matt. 20:26, John 12:27)
- To give life (John 10:10) – “He who has the Son has life” – 1John 5:11-12
“God’s Promised Rest” – Sandy Robertson
“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.” Hebrews 4:9. This rest is offered by Jesus but is not a release from works but rather an exchange.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“Forgiven and Forgiving” – Sandy Robertson
Today’s message touches on a sign that was posted by fire fighters in remembrance of 911 – “NEVER FORGET, NEVER FORGIVE!” In contrast, Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”.
When do we become most like God? – when we choose to forgive. That’s what this message is about… what forgiveness is and what it is not. Forgiveness is NOT reconciliation nor dismissing, nor forgetting.
However, forgiveness IS the following:
- Refusing to punish when given the opportunity
- Relinquishing the desire to get even.
- Surrendering your right to hurt someone who has hurt you.
“Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.”
