Email from Bishop Alexey Rudenky-Volgograd. Russia

To: Sandy Robertson and New Covenant Fellowship Church

Hello my dear Sandy Robertson!

In Psalm 46:10 it says “Be still, and know that I am God:  I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth”.

My friends, we are in New Year now and all of us most likely meditate about this year; we want to be the most productive in our ministries, our family relationships, for our friends, for our business… I’ve been thinking about this and have decided to claim this year to be the year of rest.  Really, we rush toward achievements, heights, tops and most of the time it’s just a fuss, the time spent for minor, secondary things.

One scripture comes to me that I want to ponder upon – Stand still… that’s all we need, just to stand still and know, know God and see where is he moving now.  Then we can have peace and rest in our hearts and to move along with our God in order for us to be successful.  I believe that it  concerns your hearts, it does concern mine and my prayer is for us to have close relationships with Him, if we ever want to move on to be effective, and take every step with Him and together end up at the end of this year in victory, success and glory of His greatness.

We need His help to remove this vain circulation of things and events around us, and takes us captive so easily and we start chasing and running and just at the turn of the year we sit down to analyze and we see that there are things in our lives, that were done without Him and were wrong or didn’t work out at all.

So let us reason together.  The book of Job says, “acquaint now thy self with him, and be at peace”.  Russian Bible says to “get closer to Him and be at peace”.  This is what we need – to get closer to Him and to learn peace, rest.  To rest in your ministry, in your family, in your business and to see the move of God like that way God spoke to Israel, “when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee”.

My desire for all of us that God would go in front of us, our ministries, our businesses in our family dealings with our close ones.

May the Lord bless you and thank you for your time – it is a pleasure to have a chance to at least address you distantly.  I hope that these few lines will bless you and will encourage you to keep on going with the Lord, and you will be successful.

This letter came at a very appropriate time in the life of our church and for me personally. We were going through a move to our new building that required lot’s of work and organizing. I had some duties and expectations as a leader that were too big for me. I woke one moring in March of 2006 around 4:00 AM and sat at the kitchen table reading this email. REST, I thought, “fat chance”.

You first of all have to realize that I inherited some flaws. My father was always tinkering with something and our family had problems learning to rest. When a big job comes along, I usually put all my effort into it and “get-er-done”. In this case though, I really felt exhausted as I read these words… “Be still and know that I AM God.”

As it would happen, I opened Oswald Chambers’ devotional, “My Utmost for His Highest”, I read this line, “Sense of Duty verse the Resurrected Life of Jesus”. I thought about this, how much of my life is lived and worked out from a sense of duty rather than out of the power of the Resurrected Life of Christ? Move when the Lord moves – Numbers 9:21-23.

Hearing God may require standing still – Numbers 9:8
